On July 22, 2019, InTeahouse hosted the 2019 Guangzhou Biosciences Industry Promotion Conference. The event­ was hosted in the InTeahouse Cambridge Office and provided a tremendous opportunity for life sciences and biotech companies to meet and learn more about the healthcare industry in China as well as to mingle and talk about future local partnerships. 

A delegation from Guangzhou including the Director-General of the Guangzhou Municipal Board for International Investment, Yi Wu, as well as two of his senior staff members, Zhaoyin Zeng and Yuanhuang Zhang, were all in attendance.

Yuanhuang presented Guangzhou’s current economic landscape and the city’s desire to continue its efforts and progress in the biomedical industry. He shared perspectives about the Guangzhou medical community and described their excitement for the future. With companies such as BeiGene and numerous others coming to the forefront in China, Yuanhuang described how Guangzhou has separated itself from other cities by providing a broad range of advantages to health-oriented companies.

The delegation representing the Guangzhou Municipal Board for International Investment expressed hopes that in the future more and more companies from around the world will see these advantages of doing business and investing in Guangzhou.

Dr. Richard Soll, Senior Advisor, Strategic Initiatives and Head of Cambridge Office for WuXi AppTec also gave a speech entitled, “Towards a Global Ecosystem for the Discovery of Transformational Medicines”. Dr. Soll described how Boston has advanced itself as a leading biomedical hub within the international community of medicine and also touched on what Guangzhou has done to further its own medical climate. Soll also touched on how collaborations between Guangzhou and Boston could strategically help both cities deep into the future.

In addition, the delegation from Guangzhou also received presentations from several company representatives in multiple industry sectors. These representatives included:

·      Roya Khosravi-Far, Co-Founder, President and CTO, Accurome Health,

·      Trevor P. Castor, President and CEO, Aphios Corporation

·      Osher Perry, Founder and CEO, ShipIn Systems

·      Yaniv Bejerano, Managing Partner, Innate Biotherapeutics

While in Boston, InTeahouse provided the Guangzhou delegation a tour of the city and the numerous health sciences hubs in the area. Yi Wu and his staff visited Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, as well as Boston Children’s Hospital.
